DEFRIEND ME......
So for the record, I really hate Facebook. Not because FB has done anything to me but because I hate the fact that I get on and start perusing other people's lives. Do I really need to know that so and so just cleaned her kids room or that someone really needs a cocktail? No, but I keep looking anyway and then feel like I have done something dirty. That is neither here nor there. However, what I do think is odd is when someone that you don't really know or talk to anymore has confirmed your friendship, only to de-friend you for no apparent reason. Or is there?
I was friends with a woman, who shall remain nameless, many years ago. Our friendship was super fun until it wasn't and I was not mature enough to end the friendship. I acted out, mean, nasty, ignoring- not good and not proud. Anyway, at the age of 34 some 7 years later, I believe I requested this woman's friendship on FB. She agreed and we exchanged pleasantries. Lovely, water under the bridge, we can move on- NO. I was surfing FB today after a bout of FB schizophrenia- I was on, I deactivated, I needed to reach out because I moved, I deactivate and now I am back. Call it a case of new mother hormonal coo-cooness (clearly not a word, for those prospective clients).
I think it's weird. Don't friend someone of FB if you don't really like them or want to only to de-friend which is wack. De-friending only makes sense when you a) really interact with the person and have a falling out and/or b) they really do suck (which in my case could very well apply) and you don't like the look of their picture or the garbage they write about.
How is this tied to marketing and PR- it's not. It's all about the Web in more ways than one.
